Mixed Material

These works were created during a series of projects from my MSc in Material Practice. They explore a combination of materials and processes to find sustainable and efficient approaches to environmental waste whilst creating greater appreciation of materials.

Cut and Polish, 2019

Up-cycled glass bottles

34 x 34 x 6 in.

Cut and polished bottles lampshades. Glass was dissected in various cross cuts to exploit the geometries and features of mass produced glass bottles

Bottle Dome, 2019

Concrete, up-cycled glass bottles, metal bar and wood

34 x 34 x 6 in.

Cut and polished bottles set in shallow dome with fabric form work to highlight the hidden details of glass bottles; their cross cuts, optics and details on bases.

Concrete Screen, 2018

Concrete and metal bar

23 x 25 x 4 in.

Concrete poured into fabric form work for reduced material use and simplicity of production. Pattern can be flipped and repeated to build up large scale screen.

Bottle brick, 2019

Terracotta, cast concrete and waste glass bottles.

Triangular brick- 3 x 3in, Square bricks- 3.5 x 3.5in, X-shaped brick - 4 x 4in, in various depths. Concrete module - 4 x 4 in. Glass module - 14 x 4.5 x 4.5in.

Series of 3 extruded terracotta bricks to facilitate the use of glass bottles as a building material. Concrete module holds the bottle neck and allow for the interchange of extruded bricks.

Mangour Screen, 2019

Waste glass bottles and timber

27 x 27 x 2in.

Reclaimed timber notched on 3 sides to create overlapping joints and sockets to hold the glass bases. Inspired by traditional wooden ‘Mangour’ screens from Saudi Arabia.
